The first one in the US. Located at the Porsche HQ in Atlanta. It arrived yesterday. Dead sexy in my opinion. I’m not a huge fan of the standard Panamera, but this does it for me.

Weird how the Panamera has morphed into actually a pretty gorgeous design. It really hasn’t changed all that much since being an eyesore

This is what it should have looked like from the beginning. The sedan always gave off the impression of a dog doing a number two.

I really like the new Panamera Sport Turismo (a.k.a. Wagon). Was the first version of the Panamera the best looking car ever? No. But I think it gets a bad rap for its looks. I think some of the animus was just from the fact it was a four-door Porsche.

I’m sure the PDK is great.... but I grow bored with every automatic equipped car.

Well, except for the ‘77 Cougar I had for a while in college. It was just so laid back that the lazy 3 speed auto matched it’s personality perfectly.

When flappy paddles shift faster than a manual, and its in a GT car I’d prefer to go clutchless.

Am also old.

I doubt they’ll do a manual in this. And honestly, I wouldn’t want one. This isn’t a track car or a canyon car. This is a highway cruise missile. I’d be perfectly happy with PDK in this.

I’ve wisened up and am very much appreciating having an automatic car for road trips. Then again for me, to get anywhere I have to deal with OC and LA counties, and I’m far more relaxed with my allroad’s 8-speed tip.

Porsche should continue making larger, heavier vehicles for one or two occupants. Making smaller, lighter, agile vehicles is so passé.

I would still want one. It’s still a car focused on handling and performance rather than comfort and relaxation. It’s no land yacht.

Kinja'd!!! CobraJoe > Saracen
09/29/2017 at 09:14

Here in the midwest, there really isn’t much difference between roadtripping in an auto or manual. Get on the highway, and you’re in the same gear the entire time.

Kinja'd!!! Camshaft Chris: Skyline/McLaren/Porsche Fanboy > CobraJoe
09/29/2017 at 10:07

Definitely not a land yacht. The PDK works great in these. I worked for a Porsche dealership for a year and drove one (first gen obviously) on a 550 mile round trip in one day. It was an amazing road trip machine. So smooth on the highway, the air conditioned seats kept me super comfy, the PDK made passing a blast, and I even shamed a Corvette and a Mustang that were being little pricks. When it first came out, I thought it was the stupidest thing Porsche could’ve done and was ugly as sin. But now the Panamera holds a special place in my heart, and I will always want one, lol.

Kinja'd!!! CobraJoe > Camshaft Chris: Skyline/McLaren/Porsche Fanboy

Kinja'd!!!1

I’ve heard that the Panamera is a great driving vehicle, and I’ve heard that Porsche’s PDK is really good. But... I every automatic I’ve owned, I wished it was a manual. The one lone exception was a ‘77 Cougar, it was too much of a laid back couch, and the 3 speed auto fit it’s personality perfectly.

09/29/2017 at 11:21

Kinja'd!!!0

I feel ya. I’m the same way. But then again, I’ve never owned something nice enough to where the automatic version is actually an amazing dual-clutch. All my cars have had the choice of manual or slushbox, lol.

Kinja'd!!! CobraJoe > Camshaft Chris: Skyline/McLaren/Porsche Fanboy
09/29/2017 at 11:25

Kinja'd!!!0

I suppose I haven’t driven a dual clutch either, but I have driven some decent and reactive automatics (the CVT in my wife’s outback surprised me by how quick it reacts to the paddles or hitting the gas), but none of them have “scratched the itch” for me.

Kinja'd!!! Camshaft Chris: Skyline/McLaren/Porsche Fanboy > CobraJoe
09/29/2017 at 13:35

Kinja'd!!!0

I hated the CVT in my Sentra. If I can’t have a manual, I’d still at least like to feel the car going through the gears. Of the dual-clutches I have driven, they’re not all great, lol. The ones you get a regular (read: non-AMG) Mercedes are pretty lackluster. Same for Infiniti and Jag. Though, the F-Type gets an exception for Jag. That’s a blast to drive with the paddles. That and the PDK (with paddles) equipped Porsches can definitely scratch the itch for me. Porsche does however leave the paddles off depending on trim level / packages though, and you’ll be stuck with these little buttons where your thumbs go on the steering wheel. That’s annoying.
